Educators and parents must hold students to high standards of excellence and integrity, in all ways possible. If we fail to do this, we are ultimately doing our students a great disservice and harm to their future. In the short term, it may indeed be easier to let things slide. But in the long run, a failure to hold students to high standards will do great harm to their future prospects, and the future prospects of people who will be relying on those students, as well as society at large. It may be painful and difficult at times, and perhaps cause endless frustration, but if we really want to build a better future, we must hold our students to high standards.
